The world-famous plan for the conquest and retention of power is striking in its frankness and relevance. Niccolò Machiavelli's historical and political treatise "The Ruler" and "Florentine Chronicles" reveal the essence of state-building, celebrating both the greatness and criticizing the tyranny of the rulers. Machiavelli analyzes the strategies and actions of historical figures such as Alexander the Great, King Cyrus, Pope Alexander VI and his son Cesare Borgia, Charles VII and Louis XI, the biblical David and the ancient Greek Achilles, and many others. He reflects on the rightness and wrongness of their governments, offering possible solutions for their correction.

Although more than half a millennium has passed since the treatise was written, his works remain unalterably relevant in the conditions of cyclical history.
