Chronicle of Ukrainian Design. No. 1

"Chronicle of Ukrainian Design" is a new printed periodical launched by the Spiilka design bureau. Its goal is to record and interpret the history of the formation of Ukrainian design identity, to show its transformations from the era of Kyivan Rus to modern international collaborations.

The magazine presents the voices of Ukrainian designers and creative professionals who talk about design as a combination of functionality, respect for cultural heritage, and innovation.

The first issue contains topics outlining key moments of the Ukrainian visual code: Vasyl Krychevsky, the coat of arms of the UNR, the e-Ukraine font, the concept of "States in a Smartphone", Volodymyr Pobedin, the bicycle of Aeneas, and other stories.

The magazine covers various areas: typography, graphic, industrial, product, and digital design. It introduces the reader to people and projects that have been important for Ukraine and left their mark in the global context.

In the second printing of the first issue, the material on Ukrainian fonts was updated — supplemented with new facts, clarified details, and rethought. Everything else remained unchanged: the same topics, the same important names.

The publication was the result of Spiilka's collaboration with the SKVOT school of popular culture, and was also published with the support of the Ukrainian IT company MacPaw, the EdTech company Headway, and the law firm Vasyl Kisil & Partners.
