Conceptual Photography | Modern photographic experiments with techniques and images | Lucia Bondar, Serhiy Melnychenko

Today, a new direction is actively forming in the international art space - modern conceptual photography from Ukraine. Young Ukrainian artists, relying on freedom of creative thinking, accessible technologies and bold color solutions, create powerful visual expressions that are already gaining the status of a unique phenomenon. An important role in the development of this phenomenon is played by the MYPH school and community, which has become a center of innovative photographic thought.

It was in the collaboration between Creative Publishing and the MYPH School of Conceptual and Art Photography that this joint project was born - a book that introduces a wide Ukrainian and international audience to the brightest representatives of modern Ukrainian conceptual photography.

Artists working in this genre combine digital and analog techniques, create collages, complex visual narratives, experiment with instant cameras and various techniques of cameraless photography. Their works encompass both documentary footage of real life and created fantasy worlds.

The artists focus on deep themes: physicality and spirituality, personal sensuality and sexuality, psychological and bodily states. In the book you will find works with a powerful semantic load along with author's quotes - from school graduates and active members of the MYPH community. A special place is occupied by visual reflections on the tragic events that Ukraine is currently experiencing. The artists transform these experiences into images, using a variety of media, styles and genres.
