Euripides (c. 480 BC – 406 BC) was the third Athenian tragedian after Aeschylus and Sophocles. Known for his critical approach to any established norms, from mythological to social. In the work of Euripides, there are often intonations of philosophical reflections, similar to the debate of the sophists, as well as a great interest in human destiny.
"Sophocles believed that he depicted people as they should be, while Euripides shows them as they are. Indeed, it is one thing to create the image of a heroic personality operating within certain norms, and quite another to penetrate the human soul and try to convey in words what is in it happens. Harmony of proportions, proportionality, expediency - everything that for the Hellenes was associated with the concept of beauty and caused pleasure from the perception of perfect integrity, was manifested in the style of Euripides" - A. Sodomora
