The book "KAZIMIR MALEVYCH. Kyiv Period 1928-1930" is an important monographic publication dedicated to a little-known, but extremely significant stage of the work and life of the outstanding Ukrainian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich. This book, published by "Rodovod" in February 2017 with the support of kmbs and the Zagoriy Family Foundation, is the result of many years of research and the discovery of new archival materials.

The publication was made possible by a discovery made in Kyiv at the end of 2015: new texts by Kazimir Malevich and documents relating to his teaching activities at the Kyiv Art Institute in 1929-1930 were discovered. Among these materials, which had been kept for almost 90 years in the archive of the artist Marian Kropyvnytsky (a lecturer and assistant at the Research Cabinet), was evidence of the creation of the Research Cabinet, a kind of scientific institute of Malevich.

The Ukrainian edition of the book, published in hardcover, has 304 pages and contains over a hundred illustrations. These include not only Malevich's works from the 1930 Kyiv exhibition (the artist's last solo exhibition), but also works by his colleagues, as well as archival photographs of teachers, students of the Kyiv Institute of Art, Malevich's friends and family.

The editor and author of the introductory article is Tetyana Filevska (Kyiv). This book is key to understanding the Ukrainian period in Malevich's life and work, his connections with the Ukrainian art environment, and his contribution to the development of the world avant-garde.
