Description

"Crossroads" is one of the most famous works of Ivan Franko, which combines elements of a detective story and a socio-political novel.

The main character, a young lawyer Yevhenii Rafalovich, arrives in a small Galician town, where he becomes a public defender. There he again meets the love of his youth - a former girlfriend who ended up in an unhappy marriage with a sadistic man. Suffering and humiliation force the woman to take a desperate step - murder. This is just the beginning of the events that turn the peaceful town upside down.

Franko successfully draws psychological portraits and deep motivations of the heroes, unfolding before the reader the choice of the main character - to find a way out of the impasse in a world where the weak always lose, and the gullible become victims of fraud and manipulation.

The edition preserves the author's original spelling - "zhelehivka", which consists in the consistent use of the letter "y" and other orthographic features.
