Ivan Franko(1856–1916) was an outstanding Ukrainian writer, poet, playwright, publicist, translator and scientist. One of the most outstanding representatives of Ukrainian literature, he made a significant contribution to the development of national culture, and was also an active public and political figure. His work covers various genres and topics — from lyrics and drama to scientific works on literature, history, and economics.
Franko is the author of numerous poetry collections, in particular"From the peaks and valleys","My Emerald","Withered Leaves", as well as an epic work"Moses". Stories and novels are particularly well-known among his prose"Borislav laughs","Zakhar Berkut","Cross paths". Franko also translated works of world literature, contributing to their spread in the Ukrainian cultural space.
Ivan Franko was an active fighter for the social and national rights of the Ukrainian people, his work remains a symbol of the struggle for freedom and justice.
