Marko Vovchok is a literary and artistic figure who occupies a prominent place among the authors of psychological realism. Her work reflects the struggle for freedom in conditions of all-consuming oppression. In her stories, and in particular in the story "Institute", she traces the life paths of heroines who refuse to accept enslaving circumstances. On the one hand, we have before us a depraved and cruel maiden. Even studying in a boarding school does not change her, and she turns the lives of those around her into a terrible reality: psychological pressure, whims, beatings, bullying. But on the other hand, Ustyna is a peasant who is always ready to defend her dignity and be ready to sacrifice everything in order to have the right to manage her own life.
