Gaius Julius Caesar (100–44 BC) was a prominent ancient Roman statesman, commander, and writer whose rule marked the beginning of the empire, changing the republican order. His military activities in Western Europe affected the cultural and political landscape and left a visible mark on the lives of Europeans. "Notes on the War with the Gauls" are of great importance because their author, Caesar, was a participant in the events described. In these records, he recorded his observations and impressions between battles. Together with the eighth book, written by his accomplice, Aulus Hirtius, this work became a classic of historical literature. The first Ukrainian edition of the translation of "Notes" is published now.
