Caravaggio's life is a true legend that surpasses any fiction. In the early 1600s, he was Rome's most famous painter, creating captivating canvases with realistic and dramatic subjects commissioned by influential and wealthy patrons.
He was completely strict about any rules and was noted for his violent nature, thanks to which his fame spread throughout Italy. In addition, he committed murder, was knighted, and escaped from one of the most impregnable prisons in the world. His paintings depicted saints in realistic images, as well as ordinary people from the streets and markets. Caravaggio skillfully used chiaroscuro and always chose only the best materials for his work.
Thus, Caravaggio became a pioneer of European realistic art of the 17th century and one of the true innovators in the history of Western art.
