The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Sixties, Ivan Dzyuba and Levko Luk'yanenko, Vasyl Stus and Vyacheslav Chornovil, protests, arrests and camps - all these are components of the history of the Ukrainian dissident movement, which unfolded from the mid-1950s to the second half of the 1980s.

In his book "Dissidents: History of the Ukrainian Liberation Movement", Roman Klochko describes the lives and struggles of heroes who criticized communist ideology and fought for the rights of the Ukrainian people. They used the word as a weapon that vulnerablely hit the Soviet regime's monopoly on information. Despite the repression, they could not completely curb this resistance. Although dissidents were persecuted, convicted and placed in prisons, camps and psychiatric hospitals, they continued their struggle against the Soviet regime.

Roman Klochko is a well-known translator from the English language, the author of such translations as "Gates of Europe" by Serhiy Plokhi, as well as texts by Michael Crichton, John Steinbeck, and Isaac Asimov. He is also the author of the books "The Other Melitopol Region. Essay on the History of Dissent (1953–1985)" and "Home for the Past. About Museums, History and Art."
