One of the outstanding novels of Dubravka Ugrešych, which depicts the emigration experience, where exile becomes a lens for examining one's own life history and the native country. A highly intelligent writer creates a novel-collage, unfolding from the Berlin zoo to a fitness center, and in between - momentary images and disappearing faces, in which the pain for the native land is manifested, the bombs of the new war fly by, and the sad voice of a mother whose features the lyrical heroine begins to see in herself. Together with her, the reader discovers and reproduces the similarities of parallels and plots in his own biography, suddenly becoming the hero of his own autobiographical novel. Such an effect is possible only thanks to real great literature.
