Dreams of Tokyo

This book tells the story of Izumi Tanaka, who does not quite live up to the standards of the imperial family. Instead of following the traditional rules, she wears pants, dates a former security guard, and has a Tamagotchi dog of unknown pedigree. Her father, the crown prince, also breaks imperial norms by rekindling his relationship with his mother, Izumi, who is a feminist and environmental activist.

The situation becomes even more complicated when the crown prince announces that he intends to marry his American sweetheart. Izumi, who knows what it's like to not be good enough for the imperial line, decides to seek a blessing for the marriage, even though the imperial court council votes against it.

Will Izumi be able to achieve his happiness while maintaining his principles? Will her dream of marriage come true, or will she have to give up her plans for her parents' happiness? This is a story about the struggle for self-determination and one's own identity amid the demands of tradition and expectations.
