Without GMOs. The truth and horror stories about genetic engineering

The use of GMOs, among other things, has caused the spread of myths and inappropriate ideas about genetically modified organisms. In her book, scientist Oksana Piven not only dispels these myths, but also explains the essence of GMO technology, explains exactly how it works, what methods are used for gene editing and their connection, and also considers the use of GMOs in scientific research and on the consumer's desk.

Researching herds of genetically modified goats and the cost of mice with edited genes, the scientist explains how GMO technology helps in the treatment of diabetes patients and in raising pigs with human genes for organ transplants.

In addition, the author talks about the possible use of GM tomatoes and spinach as a vaccine against rabies, the dangers of products with the "eco" label, the possibility of using plants for street lighting, and reasons why you should not panic about GM apples.

Oksana Piven, professor and doctor of biological sciences, is a leading researcher of the human genetics department of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Her research is aimed at studying the functions of genes in the work of the heart.
