Oles Gonchar (1918–1995)- Ukrainian writer, publicist and public figure, a classic of Ukrainian literature. His works, in particular the novels "Banner Bearers", "Tronka" and "The Cathedral", are considered masterpieces of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century. Gonchar wrote about war, peace, human values and moral dilemmas. His style is distinguished by deep psychologism and poetics. Gonchar was active in public activities, defended the Ukrainian language and culture, his work left a significant impact on the literary process in Ukraine.
