Ivan Nechuy-Levytskyi (real name Ivan Semenovych Levitskyi)— Ukrainian writer, playwright and translator, one of the most outstanding representatives of Ukrainian literature of the second half of the 19th century. He was born on November 25, 1838 in the village of Stebliv in Cherkasy region. He was one of the founders of Ukrainian realistic prose, and his work played an important role in the formation of national literature.
Nechuy-Levytskyi's most famous works — "Kaydash's Family," "Mykola Dzerya," "Burlachka" — reflect the life of the Ukrainian people, their way of life, customs, and social problems. His prose is distinguished by deep psychology, realistic depiction of characters and humor, which makes the works relevant even today.
Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky also engaged in translation activities, popularizing world literature among Ukrainian readers.
