Dubravka Ugresych (1949–2023)- Croatian writer, essayist and cultural critic, known for her works that combine literary skill with social criticism. She was born in Zagreb, where she received her education and began her literary career. Ugrešić was persecuted for her anti-war views during the Yugoslav wars, which forced her to emigrate. She wrote about issues of identity, exile, consumer culture, and post-Soviet society. Among her most famous works are "The Museum of Unconditional Surrender" and "Forcing the Romance-River". Her works have been translated into many languages and are highly regarded for their deep intellectual reflections and irony.
