Victoria Amelina

Victoria Amelina — Ukrainian writer, poet and social activist. She gained popularity thanks to her novels, which combine deep psychology, historical context and current social issues. Her debut novel, The November Syndrome, or Homo Compatiens, attracted the attention of critics and readers for its unique style and ability to touch on important themes such as memory, war and human relationships.

In addition to literary activities, Victoria Amelina was engaged in public work, in particular, she participated in cultural and educational projects that popularized Ukrainian literature and art in Ukraine and abroad.

Since the summer of 2022, Victoria Amelina has been documenting war crimes in the de-occupied territories of Ukraine together with the human rights organization Truth Hounds.

On June 27, 2023, Victoria was in Kramatorsk together with a delegation of Colombian journalists and writers. During dinner in a restaurant in the center of the city, the Russian occupiers launched a rocket attack on this building, as a result of which the writer was seriously injured. Despite the efforts of doctors, on July 1, 2023, she died of her injuries in the Mechnikov hospital in Dnipro.
