Valerian Podmohylyny (1901–1937)- Ukrainian writer, translator and representative of "The Shot Revival". He was born in the village of Chapli in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where he received his education and began his literary activity. Podmohylnyi is known as one of the first Ukrainian authors who raised existential and psychological themes in prose. His most famous novel "The City" (1928) became a classic of Ukrainian literature, exploring the relationship between man and the urban environment and the internal contradictions of the individual. In the 1930s, he was repressed by the Soviet authorities and died in a concentration camp. His creativity was revived only after rehabilitation.
