Panteleimon Kulish

Panteleimon Kulish– an outstanding writer, historian, folklorist, linguist, and public figure left a deep mark on the development of the Ukrainian nation.
Born on July 26, 1819 in the village of Voronezh in the Chernihiv region. Surrounded by Ukrainian culture from childhood, Kulish later became one of the brightest representatives of the Ukrainian national revival.
Kulish's work is extremely multifaceted:

  • Literary works: His historical novels, in particular "The Black Council", have become classics of Ukrainian literature.
  • Folklore: Collected Ukrainian folk songs, fairy tales, and legends, reviving interest in folk art.
  • Linguistics: Actively worked on the development of the Ukrainian language, creating dictionaries and grammars.
  • Public activity: He was the founder and editor of the first Ukrainian magazine "Osnova", and contributed to the distribution of Ukrainian books.
