Les Martovych

Les Martovych— Ukrainian writer, satirist and public figure of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, one of the representatives of the "Pokut trinity" together with Vasyl Stefanyk and Mark Cheremshina. He was born in 1871 in the village of Torgovytsia in Galicia. Martovych gained popularity thanks to his humorous and satirical works that exposed social problems, injustice and the difficult life of peasants. His works are distinguished by a sharp satirical style, realism and deep sympathy for ordinary people.

Among his most famous works are "The Unreader", "Man's Death", "Cunning Panko", which reflect social struggle, the desire for justice and national self-awakening. Martovych actively participated in public life, supporting the ideas of Ukrainian national revival.
