Ivan Bagryany(real name Ivan Lozovyagin, 1906–1963) is a Ukrainian writer, poet, publicist and political activist. One of the most outstanding representatives of Ukrainian literature of the 20th century, Bagryany was an active participant in the Ukrainian national liberation movement. For his literary and political activities, he was repeatedly subjected to repressions and was exiled in Soviet camps.
Among the most famous works of Ivan Bagryany are novels"Tiger Hunters"and"Garden of Gethsemane", which describe a person's struggle for freedom and opposition to a totalitarian system. His books are distinguished by a strong emotional charge, realism and, at the same time, a deep philosophical content that reveals the tragedy of the Ukrainian people during Stalin's repressions.
Bagryany was the founder of the Ukrainian Revolutionary Democratic Party (URDP) and actively worked on the creation of Ukrainian emigrant literature in Germany. His works became a symbol of indomitable spirit and desire for freedom.
