Golda Meir (1898–1978)- an Israeli politician, one of the key figures in the establishment of the State of Israel, the country's fourth prime minister (1969–1974). She was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, in a Jewish family, and immigrated to the USA with her parents as a child. Later, she moved to Palestine, where she took an active part in the Zionist movement. Meir played an important role in the diplomatic efforts to create Israel and build its political system. She was the first woman to head the government of Israel and is remembered for her firmness on political issues, especially during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
