Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) is a British writer and physician known as the author of the classic detective stories about Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he studied medicine, but later decided to devote himself to literature. Doyle created the image of the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend, Dr. Watson, who became one of the most famous characters in world literature.
His first story about Holmes,"Study in Crimson Tones", was published in 1887. Later, many more stories and novels were published, such as"Sign of Four","The Hound of the Baskervilles","Valley of Fear"and many others. Despite the success of the Holmes series, Conan Doyle also wrote historical novels, science fiction and plays.
The writer was fascinated by spiritual and supernatural phenomena, which affected his literary work and personal life. Arthur Conan Doyle left a significant mark in literature, creating one of the most recognizable literary detectives and causing the development of the detective genre.
