Olga Kobylyanska (1863 – 1942) was a famous Ukrainian modernist writer, an active participant in the feminist movement in Bukovina and a close friend of Lesya Ukrainka. For almost half a century of creativity, she created dozens of short stories, short stories, novellas and novels, which became important works of early modernism in Ukrainian literature.

The story "The Queen" is considered the highest expression of Olga Kobylyanska's creativity. This is a sophisticated text that captivated Lesya Ukrainka with its subtle psychologism, but angered Ivan Franko with its "sensitivity".

This is a story about an emancipated woman who aspires to write, dreams of a literary career and fights for her rights. This is the first text in Ukrainian literature that examines the issue of writing.

The "Queen" discusses, in particular, the psychological stimulus to writing. If the circumstances are not favorable at all, how does it happen? Lack of a creative environment, lack of support, even misunderstanding around - all these aspects are violated in this work.
