The Art of Ukrainian Sixties is the first large-scale attempt in the history of Ukrainian art history to comprehend and adequately present a unique cultural phenomenon - the 1960s, one of the key, but at the same time insufficiently studied periods of Ukrainian art.

The publication is centered around 15 historiographic essays about the most influential artists of the 1960s in Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Uzhhorod, and Kharkiv. In addition to monographic studies, the book contains texts about "official" art - graphics, monumentalism, and sculpture, which underwent a noticeable stylistic renewal at this time. The broader cultural context is formed by theoretical and historical explorations at the beginning of the book, as well as the final chapter devoted to the development of literature, academic music, cinema, and architecture of the 1960s.

The publication presents over 400 reproductions of works and archival materials, many of which are being published for the first time. Valuable visual sources were provided by Ukrainian museums, artists' families, and private collections. The selection of works was carried out in close cooperation with the authors of the texts, researchers of the work of individual artists, and museum specialists. Over 26 experts — art historians, scientists, collectors, artists, and members of their families — worked on the preparation of the book. All of them represent different generations, professional schools, and approaches, which allowed us to create not only a multifaceted panorama of art of the 1960s, but also to record a certain state of modern Ukrainian humanities.
