"NA4JOPM8" is a photographic project by Ukrainian photographer Igor Chekachkov, born from the accidental loss and partial restoration of an archive. The author's ten-year archive of 250,000 photographs was lost due to a hard drive failure, but some of the images were restored in the form of broken files that underwent artistic reflection.

The book raises social and political issues in Ukraine through personal stories, which in turn reveal deeper universal themes: loss and passion, intimacy and loneliness.

📌 Main ideas:

  • Photography as memory and its destruction
  • Randomness as an artistic method
  • Combining private and public life in visual research
  • Error as a starting point for new artistic meanings

📖 Context and meaning
Writer Oleksandr Mykhed describes Chekachkov's series as a "brilliant mistake" – a failure that creates a new system of beauty. In a world dominated by perfectionism, chance opens up unexpected possibilities.

The project was implemented thanks to the support of donors on the Common Fund, as well as financial assistance from the European Union and the International Renaissance Foundation.

📷 "NA4JOPM8" is an exploration of the boundaries between control and chaos, personal and collective, that through photography opens up new forms of perception of reality.
