The book "EMBROIDERY OF THE COSACRED CHIEFS OF THE 17TH - 18TH CENTURIES. TECHNIQUES" is a unique study of the luxurious and sophisticated embroidery that adorned household items and clothing of the Ukrainian Cossack officers during the Hetmanate period. This publication, often based on materials from fund collections, in particular the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after V. V. Tarnovsky, deeply reveals not only the aesthetic, but also the technical component of this art. The authors analyze in detail the various technical techniques that were common in the workshops of the Cossack officers, their origin and the evolution of ornaments over the centuries, allowing the reader to immerse himself in the world of rich traditions of Ukrainian embroidery.

The publication introduces the main techniques used to create these masterpieces. Among them, a special place is occupied by one-sided and two-sided smoothness, often combined with stem stitch and embroidery (gold and silver). Cross and chain stitch were also common. The floral character of the ornaments is a striking feature of this period, with motifs of pomegranates, grapes, complex leaves and flowers, often combined with geometric elements. The book contains numerous detailed illustrations that illustrate the described techniques and demonstrate the beauty and complexity of embroideries made with silk threads, gold and silver sukhozlitka, as well as zapolochchy on such items as sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths and clothing. This publication is an invaluable resource for art historians, ethnographers, embroiderers and anyone interested in the history of Ukrainian folk art.
