Slanted Experimental Type 3.0 – new horizons of experimental typography

Following the success of its first two issues, Slanted Experimental Type 3.0 has evolved into an ever-evolving series, exploring cutting-edge approaches in typography and graphic design.

The third edition, created in collaboration with students from the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts under the guidance of Professor Lars Harmsen and Andreas Rune, offers completely new content that pushes the boundaries of creative experimentation.

Typography as a space for experimentation and reflection

When boundaries are drawn arbitrarily, they often ignore geographical, ethnic, or historical realities, leading to tension and conflict. These themes may seem far removed from typography, but understanding them through design opens up new challenges. Designers often question their role in the consumer system, pondering the meaning of their own work. However, they have the power to choose projects, to go beyond standards, and to open up new territories.

The experimental future of type design

This project explores design strategies that embrace randomness, imprecision, and unconventional methods. The publication presents fonts created based on unique concepts and systems:

  • Fonts generated by artificial intelligence
  • Variable fonts
  • Radical approaches to letter form and structure

Slanted Experimental Type 3.0 challenges traditional norms and reimagines the design process itself. It is an invitation to explore the unknown, shift perspectives, and push boundaries – both in design and in the broader cultural context.
