The untold story of Ukrainian winemaking | Sergey Klimov

The pages of this book follow the path of Ukrainian winemaking, telling about various aspects of this industry from ancient times to today. It describes the various grape varieties that thrive in our lands, the production of wine barrels, bottles and corks produced in Ukraine, and also includes conversations with sommeliers and wine experts. Unforgettable moments are stories about modern winemakers from different regions of Ukraine, which were collected as part of an expedition that took place in the fall of 2022 with the participation of the Ukrainer team and the author of the book, the founder of the Kyiv Food and Wine Festival (Brave Wine) Serhiy Klimov.

In the current conditions of a full-scale war in our country, many winemakers have joined the struggle. Some have joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, others continue their work in extremely difficult conditions, exposed to constant shelling, having lost part of their audience of consumers and suppliers, as well as having limited access to raw materials. The work of people tending vineyards in conditions where enemy shells may fall tomorrow shows the indomitability and courage of Ukrainians.
