Olena Nikorak is a prominent Ukrainian art historian, ethnographer, and master of weaving and Easter egg painting.
Basic information:
Born: February 16, 1948 in the village of Kosmach, Kosiv district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Education: Graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now the Lviv National Academy of Arts) in 1977, where she studied at the department of artistic weaving.
Academic degrees: Candidate of Historical Sciences (1987), Doctor of Art History (2006), Professor (2015). Since 2024, she has been a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Activities: Leading Research Fellow at the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Actively researches Ukrainian folk weaving, carpet weaving, leatherwork, embroidery, and the work of artists of decorative and applied arts.
Creativity: Creates tapestries (e.g., "Golden-horned Deer," "Carpathian September") and Easter eggs, participates in art exhibitions. Her works are kept in museums in Ukraine and abroad.
Publications: Author of numerous scientific articles, reviews, and articles in the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine. Compiled the album "Hanna Vintonyak" (2011).
