Olena Maksymenko

Olena Maksymenko is a Ukrainian journalist, writer, photographer, and volunteer.

Until 2014, Olena worked in the field of culture: she wrote about contemporary art and literature, was the administrator of the Coronation of the Word competition and the editor of the Culture department in the Ukrainian Week magazine.
With the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, Maksymenko became a war journalist, covering events on the front lines and in the frontline zones. She also volunteered, helping military personnel and victims of the conflict. ​

As a writer, Olena is the author of several books. Among them:

  • "Dogs That Tame People" is a book about teenagers who have become displaced or found themselves on the front lines. ​
  • "Direct Speech. Chronicles of Defense" is a collection of military stories recorded on the front lines. ​

Her work has been recognized with literary awards, in particular, she is a laureate of the "Granoslov" competition and received second prize at the "Smoloskyp" publishing house competition in 2016.

In addition to her literary activities, Maksymenko is engaged in photography and traveling, combining these hobbies with her professional activities as a journalist.
