Mykola Gogol

Mykola Gogol (1809–1852) was an outstanding Ukrainian and Russian writer, playwright and novelist. He was born in Ukraine, in the Poltava region, and was largely formed as an author under the influence of Ukrainian culture and folklore. His work covers various genres - from satirical stories and novels to dramas and mystical stories. Gogol is considered one of the founders of realism in Russian literature, although there are also romantic and fantastical elements in his works.

Among the most famous works of the writer are"Evenings on a farm near Dykanka","Myrhorod","Auditor","Overcoat","Dead Souls"and"Taras Bulba". His works reflect complex social issues, explore the nature of the human soul, contain sharp satire on society and eternal themes of good and evil.

Gogol left a great mark in literature, and his work influenced the development of both Ukrainian and Russian literary traditions.
